What I've learn?
This year, I'm choosing Ibu Megan's music class because I'm interested in Playing Traditional Instrument and I think Ibu Megan is Awesome so i would like to join her class. So we were talking about Kolintang. What do we know about kolintang?
Well, Kolintang is an orginal Instrument from Minahasa, in North Sulawesi, East Part of Indonesia.
It is well made from light-solid local wood which will appear in parallel lines such of instrument. It can produce a long sound which cam reach high pitch note as well as low pitch.
The name of Kolintang Itseves camem from TONG TING TANG which means : low pitch note high pitch note and moderate pitch note.
In its early days when it was first created. Kolintang originally consisted of only a series of wooden bars placed side by side in a row on the legs of the player who would sit on the floor with their both legs stretched in front of them.
Kolintang had a relationship with the tradisional belief of Minahasa Natives people. Back then. Kolintang usually played in a worshipping rituals. This is why Kolintang was left behind when Christianity came to Minahasa. They were not often played that they were nearly extinct for about 100 years since then. But then they came back after the World War II, pioneered by Nelwan Katuuk (a blin musucian) who reconstructed it accordingly to universal musical scales.
And now, we as GJIS students, are going to develop and remember our old instrument so that people worlwide could know and learn about this traditional instruement too.
